City of Durham Parish Council Funding

Durham Regatta is delighted to receive continued  support through sponsorship from the City of Durham Parish Council for the 2025 regatta.   As a non-profit making organization run entirely by volunteers, the costs alone to stage the regatta each year are significant.  We are, therefore, most grateful to receive this funding which will enable us to dedicate funds to the development of areas of the regatta which may not have been possible otherwise.

Members of the Durham Regatta Executive Committee met with the City of Durham Parish Council Chair, Cllr Susan Walker, and Parish Clerk, Adam Shanley, earlier this week to express the regatta’s gratitude.  At the meeting Durham Regatta Chair, Michael Laing, was able to present plans for the 2025 regatta alongside longer term plans, including essential dredging works to the River Wear.

Regarding the Parish Council’s decision to offer the funding, Adam stated that “The Parish Council is delighted to once again support this terrific event this year and we are also promoting the regatta to our City residents through our own website too.”  This was a sentiment echoed by Cllr Walker.

Expressing his gratitude on behalf of the Regatta, Michael responded that  “The Regatta is delighted that the City of Durham Parish Council has once again given us their support.  As an event, the regatta combines the very best of exciting racing and a community festival with attractions, music and refreshments. The community festival is an incredibly important way of keeping our links with the residents of our City.”
