Past and present rowers, coaches and coxes from Durham University Boat Club (DUBC) achieved gold medal successes representing Great Britain at the 2024 Under 23 World Championships in St Catharine’s, Canada between August 18th and 25th, helping Great Britain to finish top of the medal table for their age group with 5 gold and one bronze medals.

In a fantastic Championships which combined under-19, under-23 and Senior Championships, the under-23 squad entered 42 athletes and crowned 28 gold medallists to add the 12 medal-winning crews from the under-19 squad. Victory in the under-19 Men’s eight on the final day ensured that Great Britain are now U19, U23 and Olympic Men’s 8+ Champions.

The under-23 team gold medallists included –

  • Current DUBC athlete Anna Grace who won gold in the women’s pair with Holly Youd of Newcastle University BC (photo above by British Rowing)
  • Alumna Philippa Emery (2023), coached by current DUBC coach Will Fletcher, who won gold in the Women’s coxless four, setting a new world’s best time in the process
  • Alumna Hermione Hill (2023) who won gold coxing the women’s eight
  • Alumnus Gus John (2023) who won gold in the men’s 8+
