Classic cars welcome at Rally

Colin LawsonNews

The Classic Car Rally is an annual feature of Durham Regatta that regularly draws crowds to admire the wide range of pre-2001 classic motor vehicles exhibited on the Racecourse on the Saturday and Sunday of the Regatta.

The Rally is friendly, welcoming and informal, and anyone is welcome to exhibit their classic car, motorbike or light commercial vehicle at the Regatta. The entry fee is £2.50, per day, per car, payable on the day, and includes entry for two to the Regatta Enclosure. Vehicles need to arrive before 11am each day to gain admission to the site. There are a wide variety of entry classes, in which prizes will be awarded by a panel of experienced judges.

The rally is organised by the North of England Classic & Pre War Automobiles (NECPWA) Club and has been confirmed in their 2024 event list. NECPWA has a membership of 850+ and any enthusiast of old motor vehicles is welcome to join for £15 per annum. Membership is free for those under 30 years of age.

This year it is intended that Channel 4 will be filming an episode of Matt Baker’s Travels with Mum and Dad series over the Regatta weekend, and as Matt’s Dad, Mike, is particularly interested in classic cars he will be visiting and no doubt will be happy to chat to vehicle owners.
