GB Rowing Team April Trials

Several rowers from Durham and Newcastle Universities took part in trials for the Senior and under-23 GB Rowing team at the National Training Centre at Caversham over the weekend of April 14th to 16th.

Durham University produced some fine performances with U23s Jack Roberts and George Reed taking 4th place in the D final of the Men’s pair, Gus John and Andrew Mettrick (U23s) 4th, and Levin Graf (with Tom Cross of London University) 6th in the C final of the Men’s pair.

Anna Grace and Jordan Kingston were 2nd in the C final of the Women’s pair, and Evelyna Davies and Philippa Emery (U23s) 4th in the B final of the Women’s pair.

Izzy Sellers was 5th in the C final of the Women’s single sculls, as well as being 4th fastest Lightweight single and fastest U23 lightweight woman.

For Newcastle University James Rudkin (with Thomas Digby of Oxford Brookes University) was 3rd in the A final of the Men’s pair, and under-23s Benjamin Brockway and Tom Brumwell were 1st in the E final of the Men’s pair.

Holly Youd and Lucy Thomson (U23) of Newcastle University finished 5th in the C final of the Women’s pair, and under-23 Rachel Bradley was 3rd in the C final of the Women’s single sculls.

The trials form part of an annual process starting in November that guides selection of the Senior and age group teams going into the busy season ahead which sees GB taking part in three rounds of the World Rowing Cup – round 1 in Zagreb, Croatia on May 5th to 7th, round 2 in Varese, Italy on June 16th to 18th and round 3 in Lucerne, Switzerland on July 7th to 9th – before the World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia in September.
